Kingsley Gate Partners Lowers The Curtains On Their Galaxy Of Leaders Series With A Lively Discussion In New Delhi
Kingsley Gate Partners hosted their final Asia roundtable lunchtime discussion, a part of their Galaxy of Leaders conferences, at Renew Refresh Banquet Room at The Westin Gurgaon on Monday, November 14th.
Key professionals included chief executives, country heads and HR leaders from a variety of industries such as financial services, IT, agribusiness, fast food, manufacturing and social media formed the list of attendees for the discussion.
The conversation, titled ‘Is your CHRO your next CEO,’ involved discussing and debating the merits of increasing the scope of responsibilities of HR functions in organizations, thereby increasing the accountability of HR in the performance of a business.
While there are conversations about an increasingly conducive environment for CHROs to transition into CEOs, there are certain issues that may hinder the progress in that direction. As per Siraj Chaudhry, Chairman & CEO of Cargill India, the possibility of a CHRO transitioning into the role of a CEO grows dimmer as time progresses. He says, “The reason for this is that 15 to 20 years ago, when companies were in the growth stage, there was an abundance of opportunities and a need to address those with qualified talent. In the present day, companies are in the consolidation stage and tend to have comparatively limited opportunities. This lowers the concentration that stakeholders place on HR, instead focusing more on other functions such as finance and marketing.”
The conversation included possible ways to combat these roadblocks. A suggestion about how to do this was put forward by Yash Gupta, the Country Head for Hines. “The CHRO should be given a chance to stand in line for a possible transition to the role of a CEO. This chance should be at par with the chance that CFOs or CMOs have to undertake the role.”
This discussion is the final one of four that were held in the Asia-Pacific region, in cities including Singapore, Bengaluru, Mumbai and New Delhi. The conferences were hosted by Kingsley Gate Partners.
